Around the world in 44 days! This is a marathon like no other! The "Grand Slam" entails completing a marathon on all 7 continents of the world plus the North Pole. Starting in Antartica on February 25th, Ziyad will attempt to complete Marathons in Antartica, Chile, Cyprus, LA, New Zealand, South Africa, Jordan and finally at the geographic North Pole (90N) on April 9th.
The North Pole marathon is 26.2 miles in extreme sub-zero temperatures in one of the remotest parts of the planet. It is the only certified marathon that is run entirely 'on' water, the frozen water of the Arctic Ocean Guinness World Record
The current world record for the fastest time to complete a marathon on all seven continents and the North Pole is 324 days held by Ginny Turner (USA) on 26th February 2007. Ziyad will attempt to beat the record by completing it in 44 days!
Ziyad's Journey Ziyad Rahim is the first and only Pakistani to complete a marathon on all seven continents of the world. He has participated in over 100 long-distance races in 25 countries and in 2012, he became the first person in the world to complete two extreme ultra-marathons; in Antartica (-20c) and Sahara desert (+50c) within one month . Ziyad has raised awareness for a number of causes and in 2010, ran three marathons in consecutive weeks to help raise funds for the Pakistani flood victims that effected over 20 million people. He has now teamed up with CARE to raise awareness and help us in out "Million Child Mission" to provide an education to 1 million underprivileged children in Pakistan.
