Asian Media Awards to launch at MediaCityUK
The inaugural Asian Media Awards aim to recognise the current and future Asian stars of the UK media industry.
In what is the first event dedicated to rewarding the work of British Asian reporters and producers, the awards will also identify ground-breaking attempts to highlight issues affecting race relations and human rights.
Partners for the event include ITV and BizAsiaLive.com, with judging panel representatives from Al Jazeera English, Press Association Training and MediaCom.
The launch event, held at the Open Centre in Manchester’s MediaCityUK, will see almost 200 of the industry’s most influential figures join organisers for the unveiling of the award categories, as well as food, drink and glamorous entertainment.
Umbreen Ali, Media Manager at the awards, said: “One of the unspoken issues in the industry is a real underrepresentation of the Asian population in British media. These awards have been launched with the aim of remedying this by celebrating the amazing work already being done, as well as recognising efforts to explore the most important issues affecting the industry today".
MediaCityUK the new home for the BBC, ITV and Coronation Street will host the Asian Media Awards Launch. |
“We are delighted to be able to host the launch at MediaCityUK, which is fast becoming the UK’s largest dedicated media hub. I think it is only fitting that we host the launch for such a significant event at a venue which boasts, among others, major studios and offices for the BBC and ITV.”
This year’s Asian Media Awards will take place in October with CARE International as the Charity Partners. The event will showcase the very best talent working in the Asian media and those working in the mainstream media. It will also serve as a platform for those working in the industry to network with mainstream organisations where they are vastly underrepresented.
